We celebrated British Science Week with a series of engaging and educational activities.
The week kicked off on Monday with 4H pupils exploring the properties of gases through a balloon experiment. Years 1, 2, and 4H participated in a ‘Science Farm Live’ lesson from Willowbrook Farm, where they learnt about sustainable energy and reducing food waste. Year 1 pupils also had the opportunity to plant seeds.
Tuesday saw the entire school gather for a British Science Week assembly, during which the winners of the poster competition were announced. Seventeen pupils from Years 4 and 5 led the assembly, focusing on the theme of ‘Change’. Nursery children enjoyed butterfly chromatography and using Merge Cubes, and staff members participated in a professional development session on the same technology.
On Wednesday, Year 3 pupils attended a ‘Science Farm Live’ lesson on amazing adaptations, learning about Belted Galloway cows and their role in the ecosystem. They also heard from experts on soil health and sustainable farming practices. 5K pupils conducted mock infection tests and explored the properties and changes of materials.
Thursday featured a workshop for 4H on reversible and irreversible changes, led by Dr Uhlmann. Year 2 pupils planted bulbs as part of their science lesson, learning about plant growth.
The week concluded on Friday with Reception pupils exploring planets using Merge Cubes, 3J completing their celery and food dye investigation, and 5G conducting their mock infection tests.
British Science Week provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to deepen their understanding of science in a fun and interactive way.
